How to Do Your Own Detailed SEO Analysis

If you’re wondering how to do your own detailed SEO analysis, you’ve come to the right place! Maybe you’ve heard about SEO but aren’t quite sure what it is, why you need it, or how much of it you actually need. Don’t worry—I’ve got you covered.

This guide will walk you through the fastest and easiest way to audit your site so you can focus on the most impactful fixes to boost your SEO score.

What is an SEO Score?

An SEO score is a ranking that measures how well your website performs overall. Think of it as a report card for your site. There are many tools that calculate this, but my favorite free one is Seobility (not sponsored!).

Seobility: Your Key to a Better Website

Whenever I do an SEO audit, I start with Seobility. Simply enter your homepage URL, and it generates a detailed score. Each section of the report includes its own unique score, so you know exactly where to focus your efforts.

Example Report

Red items are your highest priority—fixing these will give you the biggest improvement in your score.

Categories in a Seobility Report:

  • Meta Information

  • Page Quality

  • Page Structure

  • Link Structure

  • Server

  • External Factors

Your overall score is an average of these categories for the page you’re analyzing.

Start with the Very Important Tasks

Fixing the very important tasks first will give you the fastest results. Once those are done, you can move on to the “important” tasks.

Aim for a score between 80-100%—when it’s green, you’re good to go!

Stick to the Easy Stuff

Focus on the fixes that are within your control, like:

  • H1 headings

  • Page titles

  • Meta descriptions

  • Alt descriptions (download my alt text guideline here!)

Skip the coding tasks (e.g., dynamic URL parameters or language markups). If something sounds overly technical or confusing, it’s okay to ignore it for now or ask for help.

Take It One Page at a Time

After you’ve improved your homepage score, move on to the next page. Seobility gives you three free checks per day, so you can:

  1. Test up to three pages.

  2. Work on their fixes.

  3. Retest them the next day.

Keep repeating the process until all your pages are optimized!

Need More Help?

If you’d like a little extra guidance, I offer two ways to make the process easier:

  1. Mini SEO Course ($49): A beginner-friendly guide to making the most impactful adjustments to your website.

  2. SEO Deep Dive Audit ($150): For a more detailed, personalized approach, I’ll audit your site for you and provide a roadmap for improving your score.

Good luck, and let me know how it goes!

Send me an email with your results—I’d love to hear from you.
